Former president Donald Trump was mocked after he posted an AI-generated image of himself in place of George Washington during the Revolutionary War.
The twice-impeached and twice-impeached former president posted the image on Truth Social on Tuesday night as the United States celebrated the 247th anniversary of its declaration of independence from Great Britain.
The image shows Mr Trump in colonial army regalia supposedly from the Washington area, who led the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War before becoming the first president of the United States.
But many on social media were not amused.
“He would have sold us out faster than Benedict Arnold did,” tweeted Tim Heron, referring to the major general who betrayed the revolutionary cause in support of the British.
“When Donald Trump was in the Revolutionary War, he commanded the air, he crashed the ramparts, he took the airports, he falsified business records and stole classified documents,” said Majid Padellan.
The former president has pleaded not guilty to 37 charges related to the illegal possession of classified materials, including national defense documents, at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida and obstruction in efforts to restore it.
Mr Trump maintained his innocence in a post on Tuesday as he also reposted dozens of pro-Trump images and posts throughout the day aimed at celebrating America’s freedom.
“As my Poll numbers get higher and higher, the Communists, Marxists, and Fascists get more and more CRAZY with their ridiculous Indictments & Election Interference plans and schemes, all controlled by an out of control, & very corrupt, DOJ/FBI,” he posted. “They are arming America’s Law Enforcement to a level never seen before. The deranged Jack Smith, who is a sick puppet for AG Garland & Crooked Joe Biden, needs to be DEFUNDED and put to rest. The need to toughen up either the Republicans or the Dems will steal another Election. MAGA!”
