Guy Seeks Support Online After Refusing To Give Up Part Of His Inheritance To Elder Sister

Inheritance is a bit of a slippery deal. Not only because it tickles a vice in all material (and non-material) people who get like that, but also because it reveals the attitude of parents to their children.

Needless to say, it can be infuriating, to a level where it can drive someone to be entitled and rude without seeing the situation in sight. A view where, in the end, material things are only a hopeful piece of compensation for something taken that cannot be replaced.

More Info: Reddit

Inheritance is always a problem, no thanks to people who inherit everything because you see the worst of everything because of it.

A brother recently talked about an unbalanced inheritance, arguing that all four children should get an equal cut, but the oldest got more.

The reason for this imbalance is that the sister “becomes a parent” because she has to look after her three brothers, and this is paid.

There’s now a locked story on r/AITA, the internet’s favorite place for interpersonal arguments and conflict, about an unevenly divided legacy.

Reddit user u/Bitter_Research2372, one of the four children in the family, one of the three brothers among the brothers, and the youngest of all, recently shared how his sister to get of a greater legacy. Why?

Well, back in the day, the father lost something in the business which put the family in financial danger. In hopes of salvaging the situation, the oldest sibling, OP’s only sibling, was granted permanent custody of the child. Imagine, this was all when the four were children. The age difference between them is 7, 9, and 10 years.

The parents were saddened and decided to divide their inheritance in five ways, with each brother receiving 1/5 of the inheritance, and the sister receiving 2/5. You can guess how OP reacts to all this.

Needless to say, OP is not happy. His reasoning for this is that the sister is the best of all of them and really does not need more inheritance. Also, he didn’t see much of a problem with the fact that the sister had spent most of her childhood taking care of them because they weren’t difficult children.

This in turn angered the parents, prompting them to say that the siblings should reflect on themselves. The sister did not say anything at the time the speechbut noted in a text that while he had no intention of taking part of his inheritance, he still thought the brothers were cruel about it.

And you know what? The internet agrees with him. And also put things in perspective.

The author of the post, ie the youngest, disagreed because he saw no problem there. In his view, the three brothers are low maintenance

People have declared OP a jerk for many reasons, the biggest of which is the issue of being a “parent” (more on that later). This is one of the most literal definitions of stealing a childhood, and while the parents can never give him that, they acknowledge it, appreciate it, and try their best.

Others are encouraged by the fact that none of the children deserve any of that hard-earned money, frankly. And so they have every right to decide where it goes. And if it’s an animal shelter, it might as well be. Could be a good lesson in rights.

And yet others approach it as a lack of empathy and perspective. When they were young, they had no idea what their brother was up to. They may think it’s smooth sailing, but it’s hard to justify that because of all the rights people see in the post.

In total, YTA, and the post got a little more than 14,000 votes on this article.

However, many online have provided some insight, explaining that the brother’s childhood has been lost because he had to help his parents.

Now, on to the parenting issue. If you’re not familiar with the term, parenting is basically assigning parental responsibilities and duties to children, usually only one. But that’s just scratching the surface.

HealthLine explains that it can be more than responsibilities and duties—but also love, comfort, emotional support and more. And, what’s worse, the child is likely to learn and take over these duties without problems because, in their minds, it is interpreted as a way to maintain closeness with the parents.

The example we see in OP’s story is instrumental parenting, which is doing practical things around the house, such as grocery shopping, or providing for the family financially, or the aforementioned childcare. But there is also emotional parentingwho tend to the emotional needs of parents, often suppressing their own pain for the sake of their parents’ emotional well-being.

Although this has its benefits – children raised by parents build closer family ties and learn to be more self-sufficient and nurturing that way – it comes at a cost. And that is a burden on their mental health, resulting in issues of varying caliber, and an inability to have healthy relationships.

In perspective, while OP’s sister may be fine (there is always a chance to get out of this ALIVE), you can now see how money cannot solve the years of mental stress and the years of his childhood PERIOD. But that’s just one perspective and we want to hear yours. So do that in the comment section below!

The verdict of the community is that the brother is selfish, no two ways about it
